A Scout is Always Prepared

While camping at Lake Travis, the kids were swimming. Joshua can swim a little bit, but is not strong enough enough to go a long distance. He thinks he is bulletproof though.

We were at a small swimming cove about 15 yards across. Doug took off swimming to the other side and Joshua jumped in behind him and started swimming without his lifejacket. He did fine for about halfway then started getting tired. He stopped and hollered for Doug to help him. Doug turned and swam back to Joshua to help him. He pulled Joshua to shore while coaching Joshua to help by relaxing and paddling with his feet to make things easier. They got back to shore fine, though Doug was exhausted.

Doug performed a very unselfish act and was truly concerned about his younger brother. Doug is a good swimmer and has been on the La Porte dogfish swim team for two years but has never practiced water rescue procedures before.
