FAQ's

What age can you join Boy Scouts?

Boys who have earned the Cub Scout Arrow of Light Award and are at least 10 years old, or have completed the fifth grade and are at least 10, or who are 11, but not yet 18 years old may join the Boy Scout program.

What uniform is required?

Troop 514 uses both the Class A and Class B uniforms. Class A uniforms are the traditional brown shirts with patches and are worn with blue jeans. The shirts are available at the Clear Lake Scout Shop in the United Way Building at the corner of Bay Area Blvd. and Saturn (281-282-6067).

Additionally, your scout will need to purchase a Class B troop shirt to wear on campouts and troop activities. This is a gray polo style shirt with our troop number and your scout's name embroidered on it. Please see Ms. Aisenbrey for prices and to place an order.

What is a committee meeting?

Once a month the adults of our troop meet to discuss issues within our troop such as budget, events, rules and fundraisers. This committee is for all parents. No one is elected to this committee. The parents that show up are the parents that contribute to these discussions and make decisions. We encourage all parents to attend and contribute. You will learn a lot about our troop from these meetings. It is also a wonderful way to meet other parents in our troop.

How can parents help their scout?

Parents are essential to scouting. Read the many ways you can help your scout and scout troop.

What is a Scoutmaster's conference?

Before completing each rank, the scout must meet with the scoutmaster. The scoutmaster will review how the scout is doing and answer questions the scout may have about scouting and our troop.

What is a board of review?

Made up of troop committee members (adults), this group will talk with the scout about how he is getting along in the troop. Unlike the scoutmaster conference, the board of review members will be made up of different adults each time a board of review is put together.

Have you achieved your Boy Scout rank?

See page 4 in your Boy Scout handbook. Remember that you may work on Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class requirements all at the same time!
